Wednesday, November 25, 2009

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted @breakingthespine,that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
This week's pre-publication "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:
Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi
Publication date: May 2010, Little Brown
Summary:
In a shanty town in America’s Gulf Coast region, 100 years in the
future, where grounded oil tankers are dissembled for parts, Nailer,
a teenage boy, searches for copper wiring to make quota and live
another day. But out on the blue ocean, Nailer can see the new hightechnology
clipper ships sailing the open waves, and he dreams of a
better life, if only he can figure out a way to get there.
When an accident leads Nailer to discover an exquisite clipper ship
and its lone survivor beached during a recent hurricane, he must
choose between his dreams and doing the right thing. The decision
will lead him on an adventure that could cost him his life—or end up
saving it.
Thoughts:
Young adult dystopian novels might just be the next big thing. This is the forth or fifth dystopian ya story that I've heard about coming out in 2010. I love dystopian stories, so I hope that this trends continues.
Other awesome upcoming dystopians:
- The Line by Teri Hall
- Restoring Harmony by Jolle Anthony
- Birthmarked by Caragh O'Brien
- Epitaph Road by David Patneaude

This was going to be mine too, but I couldn't find a picture, and for me, no picture = no WoW. I love the dystopia trend. Now let's just hope they are GOOD.
